Well it is actually 3″ tube, and the welder is a pretty talented guy so we weren’t to worried at all.

Boschmanbrian wrote:@tylerwalker32 wow, very nice, do they have any flex near the outside seeing how it’s only supported by the welded tube,
The look is very neat.Yes to the flex. Its just the nature of the design, nothing outrageous. The flex actually doesn’t come from the the plate twisting the slightest bit that gives the flex.

The client and I felt the same, my budget has been very open ended so it allows for creativity and doing what it takes to achieve the best product possible.

PI_Woodworker wrote:Cool project. @tylerwalker32, how did the stair treads fasten to metal support. Do you have a picture of the finished staircase?

We had the steel fabricator drill holes in the tubing and we ran 5″ simpson screws from the bottom to attach the treads.

jponto07 wrote:Looks nice, but how well would the Doug fir hold up on stairs? We don’t use it in the Midwest…but isn’t it really soft?
Yes it is a very soft wood. From what i remember they will be using and epoxy to help durability.

Some morelove the finish on this, how do you achieve this look and how durable is it?
It’s high performance satin, I sanded the raw wood to 220 then sanded between coats with 320. I’m not totally sure who durable it is, from what I’m told it will hold up to spilled alcohol. Overall durability only time will tell

Yes it’s all cherry. Fingerprints weren’t a problem. My customer chose to use one of the best finish guys in the area and he killed it. As for the MFT I like it pretty good, been able to start using it more. It’s a great size for the daily setup.
