Pictures would help a lot.
Boys and girls, this is the problem with trying to GC your own project, when you aren’t a builder and don’t know anything about construction.
Not a dig on the OP, but there is a reason the professionals do what they do. I would completely suck at rebuilding my boots.
If you know what the problem is, and what the best…[Read more]

At the risk of sticking my hand into a cage with 2 fighting lions, 😮 may I make a comment? 😆
Doobie, we appreciate the fact that you are taking your own personal time to try and make a forum a better place, without any compensation, and a lot of headaches. Thank you.
CB, it seems that Doobie is the only one offended by your comment. I…[Read more]

Nice looking shed. Concrete floor is awesome.
But I’m just not sure about that footing detail.
Did you use sill seal, or Sidewinder-type caulk on your plate at least?

Delta replied to the topic 6 panel door in the forum Ask a Pro 1 year, 2 months ago
A new slab is less a hundred bucks.
There’s not a really good way to make a patch look good on a 6 panel door.
If it’s really small, just painting over it might be the best thing.
As far as painting, I use a mini-roller. A brush will leave noticeable lines in the door. I’ve never felt like breaking out and then cleaning the sprayer for a door. 😮

Certainly no animosity from me on your new position.
I appreciate you stepping up to try and keep the place cleaned up.
As far as what I think would be good for the forum, it’s mostly what you’ve enumerated, along with some way to attract more professionals to the site.
One issue with that is, I know a lot of Pro’s don’t really want…[Read more]

The fitting that was removed is a saddle fitting. It actually punctures a little hole into the pipe.
The new fittings are ProPress, they are just as good as soldered fittings.
You have dozens and dozens of fittings all over the place in your walls and ceilings. The chances of the one just replaced leaking before any of the others is non…[Read more]

Delta replied to the topic SINGLE finger protection – need ideas in the forum Construction Work Gear 1 year, 3 months ago
Whenever I’ve had finger injuries, I use one of those metal finger splints, with the foam inside.
Then I wrap it in a 4×4 gauze, and use either extra large cloth band-aids, or waterproof first aid tape.
Then I slip a rubber finger cot over that.
One thing that really helps is, I buy medical supplies from the companies that supply ambulance…[Read more]

As far as the other stuff, no thanks.
Friend of mine who is a nurse had a patient, who had a homemade version of one of those used on her.
This is a professional forum, so I’ll leave it at that.
The power tools should stay in the construction field.

Milwaukee used to make a sawzall that switched from one to two-handed. I don’t think it ever really caught on.
I have the 15A Milwaukee corded. It’s very nice. It doesn’t have the rotating handle, but honestly, I’ve never needed it.
I’ve also never needed a blade to be set at an angle. And I do almost exclusively remodel.
I have a Milwaukee…[Read more]

Do most companies charge extra to ship to Canada?
I guess I’ve always just kind of thought of Canada as sort of 51st State. 😮

Looks bulky, and difficult to get into tight spots.
I have a Milwaukee M28 for a cordless, and some Milwaukee corded, and I find that most of the time that I’m using a SawZall, I look something like a contortionist with a death wish. 😮 😆
I don’t think I could get that thing into 90% of the places I use a recip.

I build a lot sheds, it seems. 😆
I use wood we mill ourselves up at the ranch for a lot of ranch buildings, and because of that, I have to use let in bracing.
It works, but it makes the inside funky. Unless you’re doing wall covering on the inside. And it takes longer.
I’d rather spend the time priming T1-11, over cutting in let in braces,…[Read more]

You’ll need to add a little more info about what exactly you’re talking about.
I get supplies from multiple different places.
I also do everything from excavation and concrete, to block, to framing, plumbing and electrical, tile, drywall, trim and paint.
So I’m all over the place.
If you’re conducting market research, that’s not allowed on the forum.

Delta replied to the topic Concrete Curing. Best methods discussion. in the forum Concrete/Masonry 1 year, 3 months ago
Basically, if concrete dries too much before it sets, it can adversely affect the finished product.
Concrete “cures”, meaning it a chemical reaction that takes place to set the concrete.
If you allow the water to evaporate faster than the concrete is curing, you can have anything from spalling, scaling, or cracking, all the way to decreased…[Read more]
