Congrats John. Kids are a fun life changer for sure. I should know, I have 5.
Today I finished demo for a bathroom. Need to cut the concrete floor for the shower drain and toilet, but the concrete saw needs a new blade so that’s put off til monday
Had a new helper today. very impressed. Not a full fledged carpenter but very experienced handyman.…[Read more]

Looking into this Fiberglass Deck idea. Doesn’t look like anyone local is doing it. I’ll have to do some more research. If I could do it for a reasonable price It might be a nice extra service to offer.
Plus I like building decks 🙂

Hung two sheets of drywall. Small water damage job. A guy I was trying out put on a small steel roof last week for me. Today I insulated, drywalled and crackfilled the interior.
Very happy with the guy’s work. Will be using him more for sure.
Also booked two more estimates, a bathroom and a steel roof.
Crazy how busy it is lately.

Pl premuim. Like Kirk said, Lumberlock is nice for a subfloor.
I looked at that flex stuff. Seems like a decent product, though I’m not sure why you’d want it over their PAMtight glue. I wish they’d explained the difference in their video

Yesterday I installed the Kerdi on the shower at our current bath remodel. I really like the product. I want to try some of the KerdiBoard they have out.
I’ve got two showers coming up that I plan on trying the kerdi board on. Pricing isn’t too bad, especially when you consider that…[Read more]

I’m quite surprised at the price of those klein strippers. I’d have expected them to be quite a bit more.
I’d buy some, if I didn’t hate electrical so much.

Yeah, that’s pretty cringe-worthy. Only thing I’ve seen worse was the guy on the other site who got his hand stuck in a Baler.
Foot/Leg injuries suck though. Hopefully you’ll be able to sleep soon.

As for the Article:
#10 is wrong. A beam is stronger when split on quarter points. Helps balance the load. Also extends the difference between ends of splices. Our code (canada) puts our split points at max quarter points.
Aseverid mentioned stairs earlier. Around here, AFAIK, the acceptable difference for stairs is 1/4″. Pretty easy to make a…[Read more]

Very nice work. That’s some real nice wood you’ve got there too. Our PT is absolute crap.

Ew. The grinder thing has always been a concern of mine. I use a grinder all the time for cutting vinyl. Never without a guard and safety glasses though. And making sure that if it did go, my guard is positioned properly to protect me.
And I did not know about the linseed oil
