Hi guys, It’s been a while. Good to see some familiar names. Hope you are all doing well. I have been starting a consulting company on the side, for Remodelers and Design Remodelers. Helping them out with their businesses. I had a break from the startup with the virus and wanted to check back in. Things have changed around here. I’m trying to get…[Read more]

We made sure that we always talked about the largest jobs we were doing, not the small handyman stuff. That built our image or brand and kept leading us to larger jobs.
We found out what the best companies were charging and made sure we did the same. -

Stop communicating with the son’s Father-in-law. This job is not run by committee! Deal only with the owner (He is the only one you contracted with). If the errors are legitimate and were not subcontracted…. tell the owner that the guys were rushed and left some errors. The issue won’t create damage and could you come back over to repair them…[Read more]

The best thing I ever found was an aluminum wire tie that is normally used for top poles and strutts of chain link fences. The nails and screws rust and messs up the flow unless you have a stainless steel screw lying around and if you do $… you aren’t worried about the cost of a tube of caulk. The wire nuts get knocked off and it is always at…[Read more]

I had a laborer that could ‘read my mind’. He knew everything I needed before I did. It didn’t take long for us to be friends. How long do you think it was before I helped him join the apprentice program and start building his career? The guy was sharp.
We should give it all we have … or go home! -

This is a model home. The Sales office is in the garage. The doors will be shifted later after the subdivision sells out. It’s a regular thing around here but doesn’t make as interesting a story.

In a similar situation I removed the nails and replaced them with countersunk screws then plugged the holes with wood dowels, glued in place. It sturdied the piece and kept it authentic

Personally, I don’t celebrate by wasting a good bullet. -

I did home Design and Remodeling for 45 years. Now I work with companies as a consultant to help them succeed. We got our work through decorators (5) first, then word of mouth. We spent a thousand on each yard sign and started doing a talk radio show on Saturdays. Then we produced our own magazine and had 11k subscribers. We wrote articles for a…[Read more]
