I agree, it would be nice to find a use for them, because as it was mentioned, there are truckloads of tiles that get thrown out on the jobsites, as well as in the retail outlets.

Darryl replied to the topic Too much water when grouting in the forum Flooring 7 years, 11 months ago
Is there any tricks when using non-sanded grout? I used some on one job and I think I could have mixed it up with a little more water, it looked fine, but the grout joints didn’t wash up as nice as the sanded […]

Darryl replied to the topic Proposal Turnaround in the forum Business Discussion 7 years, 11 months ago
My process can use some work as well, I find some of the jobs pretty easy to estimate, (roofing, flooring, etc.), but if it’s a bathroom reno, where things are gutted and rebuilt, then with all of the variables, I […]

Darryl replied to the topic Bulk inventory in the forum Business Discussion 7 years, 11 months ago
I with the independant guys, there isn’t a lot that I buy in really bulk quantities, other than some fasteners by the bigger case quantities, or if there is a clearance deal on something, but then sometimes it’s a […]

Darryl replied to the topic where do you buy your stuff? in the forum All Other Trades 7 years, 11 months ago
Most power tools I have bought so far have been from Home Depot, and some from local hardware stores. I haven’t bought anything online yet, but sounds like I should check it out!

Darryl started the topic Job Estimating – Bathroom Remodel in the forum All Other Trades 7 years, 11 months ago
Hi! Just wondering how others quote on a bathroom remodel, do you use a software program of some sort, or do you have a look at the job and then guesstimate how many hours and materials needed to come up with a quote.

Darryl replied to the topic will you install sub par materials? in the forum Business Discussion 7 years, 11 months ago
Lots of good points, while there is some really poor products out there, I think most times by educating the Customer (with pictures if possible) about sub-par products and the issues they would face, they will […]

The LED`s on drills are definitely a nice feature, but I also like the tool free blade changes on jig saws, sawzalls, and finish air nailers when you have to unjam nails.

Darryl replied to the topic A Plumbing Question For You Carpenters and Remodelers in the forum Woodworking/Carpentry 7 years, 11 months ago
I usually cut and cap everything myself as well, and just started using the sharkbite fittings. They work great and are quick and easy, if the lines are going to get shutoffs at some point, I will usually put them […]

Usually just use trash cans mostly or 5 gallon pails for the smaller heavier stuff, then carry the bigger stuff out by hand.

Darryl replied to the topic FAV Recip Blade? in the forum Reciprocating Saw Blades and Other Accessories 8 years ago
Not very brand loyal, price usually wins out, but probably my favorite blade is a sharp one! I am bad for trying to get my monies worth out of blades, and usually end up using them past their prime!

That’s a good idea, especially when the homeowner is so undecided, probably saved the homeowner money in the long run (a little extra for wire now, a lot less for labour later, once everything is closed up).

Darryl replied to the topic Labeling Wires in the forum Electrical 8 years ago
I don’t do a lot of wiring, but when I do, I use the sharpie as mentioned a few times above. It helps speed things up for the current job, as well as any future work.

Darryl replied to the topic DIYers and business in the forum Business Discussion 8 years ago
So far I have found it is usually the money that hold some people back, or like someone else mentioned, they will do some of the prep work to save some costs, or some want to hire you by the hour to ‘help’ them. […]
