kswiss wrote:After getting the bosch 18v sawzall I just wanted to share my thoughts on it here. First of all, it is a really big tool. It will take up a lot of space in your tool bag/box for sure. While I like that it has two speeds, the mechanism to change speeds and lock the tool feels pretty cheap and it’s in kind of an awkward position. T…

What about the oxidizing cleaners/sanitizers? Like Oxiclean as an example. Another way out there thing I could think of was UV radiation. No source of that is there? I know that some food handling areas using UV to sanitize.

Jerry replied to the topic modern design or contemporary which do you prefer in the forum Woodworking/Carpentry 5 years, 9 months ago
To answer the originally question.
I prefer rustic. Beams, rough cedar everything square no curves. Very Ponderosa Ranch like. I agree the flat no trim look is much harder to achieve. Our drywall contractor charges about 20% more to give a dead flat smooth surface for paint or drywall. This is compared to a texture, orange peel, knock down etc.…[Read more] -

Took a little while to work it all out. Decided to work it out nice rather than getting heated. Went through our lumber salesman at the same yard.(strange setup). He is going to take care of us on the deal. Reading through the lines he must have gotten the same song and dance as I had. Making templates this go around

Impossible to reframe the windows. The top goes up against a 8×12 beam that is part of the roof. They sit on top of a…[Read more]

Trapezoidal windows, what happened to square windows. That’s your problem
Hazard of a custom house drawn for a graphic designer. This is the same house with the massive timbers.

I was more upset by the attitude then by the fact they didn’t want to stand behind the windows. at the point I called I wasn’t really worried about whose fault it was or who was going to pay. I just knew I had six holes that need Windows and I didn’t have any windows to put in them and needed them as quick as possible.I had a problem and called…[Read more]

I am buiding a custom house an it has six trapezoid windows. The have been trouble from gitgo. When we ordered them 6 weeks ago the salesman came out to help measure them. Well they came in and didn’t fit. I called to tell him they dint fit in a matter of fact tone. Didn’t blame anyone. Just said they didn’t fit. His immediate response was “its…[Read more]

Jerry replied to the topic How to saw a log in the forum Woodworking/Carpentry 5 years, 9 months ago
Three “feet” would be a great idea. Three attachment points make a solid base by definition. As far as cutting I can’t add much. Maybe grab a partner and a two person saw and go at like the lumberjacks used do. Some work but it might be fun too.

Where I had to spray right next to other painted surfaces I used 1 strip of 1/2″ tape and only needed about half of that width.

That and touching up marks on trim where the carpet was drug in. A couple of places I had to fill in door mortises and a few cat scratches. Faster than anything i had used before.

RonW wrote:How is the overspray with the airbrush?
If you pay attention to where you are pointing it the overspray is almost non-existent. If you wave it around like a kitten playing with string you can get it all over. I was using canned propellant which is chloro carbons. Between that and the lacquer fumes I got pretty lit up.

The brush I was using today had a .5mm needle. and a 1/3 oz cup. At 2 inches the spray patter is less than 1/2 inch.

I asked about this awhile back and I finally tried it out today. An airbrush works great to touchup trim painted with lacquer. Fast, easy, clean and handy as all get out. I used a double action since that is what I had. I had to thin the lacquer down a little. You are working with a very tiny needle and orifice. I made a mess getting started so I…[Read more]

I haven’t done LED’s but I did bunch of T8 to T12. It is really simple. I just pulled everything out and put in the new ballast and new sockets (turned out faster than reusing the old ones). After awhile I could do one in 15 minutes. I could have done it faster with an assistant to hand me things. I had to make 4 round trips on the ladder per…[Read more]
