WOW – impressed that you were able to get so much for it to be honest. For a small, benchtop lathe, that is an excellent price that you got.
I’m assuming that you are in the USA and that was $300USD that you received for it???
I picked up the lathe pictured, which has a 12″ swing, and 33.5″ bed length for $265CDN. The lathe costs $599CDN brand…[Read more]

Steve replied to the topic V-25 What did you do in the shop site today in the forum Talk Around the Job Site 4 years, 2 months ago
Picked up all the wire, electrical boxes, and panel, so that I can start installing the outlets in the new shop. There will be no shortage of outlets throughout, and I want to eliminate having to use extension cords at all, if possible.
I was able to get dual 240v -20A, as well as the usual 120v – 15A dual outlets.
Also picked up my VFD today,…[Read more]

Cheers @RonW – Will be going with 1″ styrofoam and Tyvek house wrap on the sheathing. Flashing the bottom and concrete, and then add siding to bring it flush. That should give me a nice bit of extra insulation, before I insulate and drywall inside.

Actually, footings were in place before the pour…….
Haven’t measured the ledge overhang, but will probably just add flashing and then siding to bring it flush…Still mulling over what my best option is.
As I mentioned, beginner’s mistake, and one I will learn from for any future projects. Appreciate all the feedback though – its a great…[Read more]

The initial idea was to brick the walls, to match the house, and so that is why the gap was left. Then, the inspector said that the pad was not sufficient to hold the weight of the brick, so have to change it now to either flashing around the bottom, or, as has been mentioned here, an insulative styrofoam between the sheathing and the…[Read more]

@JimDaddyO – That was the plan. Hoping that I’ll end up with about 18′ x 12′ of decent sized overhead storage.
JimDaddyO wrote:Nice progress, and a nice size by the looks of it now that the sheathing is getting close to done. A bit of overhead storage happening there?

Cheers @theamcguy – when I first saw the ad, I was really skeptical, which is what made me call him. When I found out his circumstances, and that he just needed it gone, I was on it like a fat kid on a smartie!!!

Hate to burst your bubble @Doobie, but there is nothing wrong at all with the miter saw. Was just in the right place at the right time, and he just wanted it gone.
If its any consolation, it needs a cleaning…….lol

Steve replied to the topic MRC23 Use in Router Lift? in the forum Routers, Router Tables and Router Bits 4 years, 2 months ago
Yes I did see this list Frank – and for the beefier jobs that I will be doing, I will probably go with either the Milwaukee 5626 or the Porter Cable 7815.

@jponto07 – Never really trusted the digital calipers, and that goes for digital dial indicators as well – even the Mitutoyo ones. I bought my old set of Mitutoyo dial calipers when I started my Toolmaker/Mouldmaker apprenticeship over 30yrs ago, and they are still dead balls accurate. I don’t like how the digital caliper readout fluctuates at the…[Read more]

Found this one today on a local online garage sale website, and went and picked it up this evening……… $30, and he threw in 2 brand new blades with it.

@jponto07 – Have you considered trying to find a set of Mitutoyo calipers used, say on Craigslist, or Ebay???? Sometimes, you find older machinists selling off their tools after they retire, and can come across some decent deals.
You do get what you pay for with precision measuring instruments like these. Mitutoyo are one of the brands that…[Read more]

Spot on @smallerstick – Once the shop is done, there is a TON of remodeling that I need to get to in here. It’s one of the reasons that I finally pulled the trigger on the shop build.
I’ve used this jig in the past and loved it. The results really are excellent, so will definitely incorporate it into the kitchen build.

I agree – love mine, but with my current table setup, its just not usable as a table mounted router. I also have the Hitachi M12V, the original version, and it is also top notch for a 3.25HP router……..

Thanks @jponto07 – unfortunately, because the Triton TRA001 is a fixed base plunge router, the motor is not removable, and I can’t use it in my router lift. I have the older Canadian version, the TRC001, which doesn’t have the above table height adjustment that the newer versions have.
I need the motor alone, which can be mounted in the built…[Read more]

Steve replied to the topic Floor joist cracked/splt in the forum Ask a Pro 4 years, 2 months ago
Agree with @jponto07 and @DirtyWhiteBoy, it’s minimal and not likely to cause you any issues moving forward. With your access to the floor joists that open, I would identify your “squeaky” areas and shim between teh joist and the floor board, instead of nailing from the top. You will save your flooring and eliminate the squeaking that way.
