I would be very concerned working on site like that. Safety should always come first. Not worth getting hurt. Don’t do anything you don’t feel safe doing.

Like every one said, its kind of what works for that particular job. We have a one ton dump truck that we try to get as close to house as possible and can throw stuff out the windows into the back of the truck. Sometimes build a chute to reach back of truck. Sometimes use dumpster if its a big job and can get one on site. And we always end up…[Read more]

Its kind of ironic that the best the house ever looks is the day we sell it. kind of think to ourselves “if I knew it could look this good I would have kept it “. Lol

2011 Chevy extended cab short bed. Lots of storage in the extended cab. Do not really miss the long bed I have had in the past. One of the best features of the newer truck is the Bluetooth for hands free cell phone use. Love that.

greg replied to the topic 3 Way Track Saw Showdown in the forum Track Saw 6 years, 9 months ago
I think a lot of the final decision could come down to whether you are only looking to buy the saw with tracks or are you planning to buy other tools down the road. One of the additional festool advantages is that the tools work as a system with interchangeable vac hoses, power hoses and storage units. Also their routers and other tools work with…[Read more]

When you are framing multiple walls intersecting a long wall you do not need to build tee posts like you do with wood framing. Where the walls intersect do not install the last stud against the longer wall. Leave […]

This of course is one of the easiest and fastest ways to check square on perpendicular walls. We will usually use bigger increments such as 9-12-15 to gain a little more accuracy.

greg replied to the topic Home Shows in the forum Business Discussion 6 years, 9 months ago
Have never done them. I am smaller size company working mostly on referrals. As a general contractor vs a specialty contractor seems like most people who are looking for a general contractor to do a bigger job that a home show might not be best place to find one to hire.

We try to recycle certain things here but there are just nit any places to get rid of most building materials leftovers. We recycle all metals. Just took a partial load last week with copper pipe and wire and some steel and cast iron tub. Got over seven hundred for the load. Also take cardboard to recycle centers when have big amounts on site.

greg replied to the topic truck box in the forum Talk Around the Job Site 6 years, 9 months ago
Always had best luck with weatherguard boxes. Have a larger cross over box on my Short bed right now. I can still slide plywood under it and also slide in 16′ material under the box and up over tailgate and the box helps hold the long material in place. Just make sure you bolt the box down extra well. In the past have had a cross over with two…[Read more]

Always been a truck for me. My truck is still my main vehicle so I try too keep a nicer one vs having a truck for work and another vehicle for play. The current one is my first one with an extended cab and shorter bed. Was a little worried about the shorter bed but have not missed the eight foot bed. Can still haul sixteen foot material by…[Read more]

Try to have big picture schedule for each week. But of course things are always changing and emergencies are always coming up so just have to adjust on the fly. Also keep list each week for all the little things that are so easy to forget.

greg replied to the topic whole house remodel in the forum Ask a Pro 6 years, 9 months ago
One thing to keep in mind is you still always have to be aware of the value of the homes around yours. No matter if you get it cheap but then spend too much on the renovation you could very easily price your self too high when it comes time to sell. Also make sure you are in a neighborhood that is on the rebound and not on the decline.

My tile subs mainly use kerdi. With cement backer board behind it for stiffness. He had tried Kerdi board as backer but did not like the flex when trying to set large tiles.

Will usually catch the wrangler or route 66 brands on sale at Kmart for about $12-15a pair. They hold up pretty good for the price. A lot of times they will have the carpenters style shorts on sale as well.
