I don’t use mine too often for framing either, but we do quite a bit of exterior trim and other tricky stuff.
You gotta get a long rail dude. better accuracy and faster setup.
I would like a long rail, but in the field it seems like too much trouble.
The people I work around are like China Closet Bulls, and as far as transporting, I drive a 1…[Read more] -

As far as power is concerned, it has only bogged down and went into safety mode once. That was when I was ripping some very dense 1″ hickory. It did it a few times that day.
As far as plywood and 2x’s I haven’t had any problems. I even cut out an 1 1/2″ Maple Butcher block kitchen with no issues.
If I was framing everyday, I wouldn’t even own a…[Read more]

Well, turns out I just needed to dig a little more.
This is the first time I have seen this in print. None of the retailers have it mentioned.

I did 5 years in Industrial electrical work. If your will to travel that is a great way to go. I’m in the southern U.S. so there isn’t really a strong union drive down here. I was able to make journeyman in 2 years, although I have been complimented on having a high learning curve.
Working in the industrial environment was easy as it didn’t…[Read more]

I have owned the Festool HK 55 for a little over a year now. I have to say, I think I bought the wrong saw. I can see it’s benefits in the field, however, I think I should have purchased the TS 55 model.
The HK has some design features that I just don’t love, but that’s another topic. My question is does anyone use the parallel guide attachment…[Read more]

I don’t have one in this phone. I’ll try and get one of it tomorrow.
Sorry.

I did break down and make this table… The edge banding was eventually removed. it only served to provide weight. I went with just a piece of furniture grade 3/4 for the top. it did well over the last year. Now I am looking towards something a little more transformer-like. I believe a system similar to the O.P.s tables could do the trick. I want…[Read more]

It’s not a stitch hole marker for leather.
I bet it is for something thick and soft like iveys.

Matthew replied to the topic What are your favorite multimaterial fasteners and why? in the forum Talk Around the Job Site 3 years, 2 months ago
If it is for wood. Deckmates, period. They never strip and I can go back and remove them if I need too. I hate 3 inch drywall screws.
Light masonry tapcons have always done well for me.
I don’t do much metal fastening but when I do the tek screws have been good enough.

I am an employee, but I almost always work by myself. I rather enjoy it. If I do need help it’s just some kid that has to put his phone away to pick up something.
My boss knows he can just throw me out into the wolves (sight unseen) and I will get it done. I love being that guy. I think we are the only floor covering company that has an in-house…[Read more]

Matthew replied to the topic V-30 What did you do in the shop site today? in the forum Talk Around the Job Site 3 years, 3 months ago
Things have slowed down a bit at Snyder Floor Covering.
Today I started on my second table build ever (for our showroom). The first was pine assembled with dowels and pocket hole screws. That was my first attempt at dowels.
The table I started today is red oak, and I was dumb enough to jump off the deep end and try mortise and tenon…[Read more]

I have always enjoyed the rigid cordless drills.
Earlier this year I found the festool drill line up. I was hoping to get one as I do a lot of cabinet installs.
However, this new Bosch sounds like the best option for me due to the cost. -
Matthew replied to the topic Safety Position and challanges. in the forum Train a Pro 3 years, 3 months ago
I wasn’t advocating workers not being trained in safety. I’ve plenty of people who were trained, but opt out of using that training.
When I worked in refineries, I knew they (the refineries themselves) didn’t care about my safety. So, I took the “you’re not gonna hurt me” approach. That worked out well for me.
But when I left and went back to a…[Read more]

I have seen both great and terrible safety officers over the years. The good ones get made scape goats just as fast as the bad ones.
Ultimately, I feel, safety comes down to the individual. I have worked in the safest plants in the country, and some of the worst and was never injured.
I broke both of my heels at a commercial floor covering…[Read more]

I paid 20 for mine with 10 spare 2b leads.
I have been using it for about 3 weeks and really like it.
The 2b shows up well on tile and hardwood flooring.
