Paul Jackman is one of the best creators on You Tube. I subscribe to his channel. He has a pretty good sense of humour too. Check out his lumber rack video.

The Shelix head is a real improvement to that planer for sure. The issue I have is that combining the price of the planer plus the head gets you pretty close to a Hammer or other European combination planer/thicknesser. I know I would opt for the combination machine in a heartbeat.

I know what you mean. Also who wants spend that kinda money for Shelix head for older planer. A Hammer combination machine would be nice to have.

No way man. You’re still far from that price.
A 12″ combination unit from Hammer will set you back $6500. Plus tax.
A 13″ Dewalt planer with a Shelix head it’s around $1200. You have more that $5000 to buy any 12″ jointer you want. Which is a lot.June 18, 2018 at 6:52 pm #686172No way man. You’re still far from that price.

I am not sure I would spend $1200 in 13″ Dewalt planer.

The 12″ Rikon jointer/planer combo is $3640 CDN with the helical head at Elite tools and $2770 with the straight knives.
