July 15, 2020 at 2:30 pm #747699OLD THREAD WARNING
I have this old hammer that was in my Grandpa’s tool box. I am just wandering what it is called & what it was used for. One day plan on cleaning it and using it.

Not sure. Looks like a small sledge hammer. Used for hitting things…lol. I really like the shape of the head. Maybe a rounding hammer for forging?

Ha Ha I wondered if was used for hitting things. LOL!! This is the comment of the day.
I wonder if was for forging things. I know back in the day my Grandpa shod his old horses. That is about all I know. Thanks Jim. I did try researching and couldn’t find anything. I too like the shape the head. It needs a new handle made for it.

ModeratorI think it’s just an old hammer of sorts. Possibly not for any specific task, just a style that came to market at one point and left rather quickly shortly thereafter only to be found now in old toolboxes.

You could be right. I pretty sure it sat on window sill in cow stable at the family farm.
