I’ve heard of Spax many times, but have never seen them. Are they the same bit shape as the torx?

I believe Spax is the brand name of a line of wood fasteners originally invented in Germany. You can find them in HD in a distinctive green box.

we’ve been seeing more grk fasteners in my area. i was thinking of testing them out.

A tad bit more costly, but well worth the price

I’ve been onto GRK for about 3 years now and is why I have moved to them from Robertsons/square drive. Just consistency in quality, which is very high, and simply being better than Robertsons.

Just wondering if Spax is simply another Torx/Star/Spax same head design.?

The Robertson bit and fastener were developed in the early 20th century. They were over 700 used in the assembly of the Model T Ford. Ford tried to get an exclusive licensing deal with Robertson and was refused. Henry Ford met up with Phillips to develop a no slip bit and fastener and got the exclusive license deal.

Both Robertson and Phillips are old tech and have been improved upon over the years to overcome their shortcomings. Look at what you want the fastener to do and pick the head that matches the use.

i was about to give up on robertson’s but now with that new vega bit, it drives in so nicely i haven’t bothered testing out the grk’s just yet. However last project i checked it out and the prices are double regular screws.

The majority of the Spax screws use a square/Phillips combo drive head…in fact all of their smaller screws do. When you jump up to structural screws and other specialty screws, that when they start to use torx drive.

That would also reflect as to why the price is 3X that of Robertson Screws.

Perhaps, but when the customer is paying for them (just a few extra dollars per job), the difference is night and day…and you don’t sweat paying $20 more for a bunch of screws.

It’s really stupid in a way, something so simple is such a “joy” to work with. They zip right into the work piece and never break. I’d be inclined to say that they actually drive faster as well, but I have no data to support that. Well worth the extra expense if you value productivity over those lost few dollars in materials.

Did everybody send Jim the review on time?
I send him mine a bit late but still before the 6th.
Those videos and pictures took longer than I expected 😀

Curious when those reviews gonna show up at the front page.
Wanna know what the rest written about the bits.
    Probably after the weekend…

Look what I just found, the new Impact Tough Bits.
They even added the Torx in every size.
$15 is not a bad price for that kit and it includes a hard case.

Definitely on my list as soon as they hit the store.

Nice find Alex, they do look like a very nice set of bits and the US price is right.

I would think that those will make the list. I would be surprised if they didn’t.

I am looking forward to it.

And here some of the 2-1/2 inch long double sided bits.
I don’t know why they make the philips bit is so sharp/pointy.
    Arrow philips bit 😀
They also have some 6inch long bits. great that bosch went that route.
    Nothing yet on Bosch’s homepage.

PH1 is a dedicated Philips head bit, not like the P2R2 which will drive the Philips and the Robertson #2 and the combination screws, too.

Guess I got confused with the PH1 bit and the PH2, so a smaller bit.
Because thats why they appear so “pointy” to me. I remember the PH2 how they looked like when I tested them.
