36 wide insulated steel doors .

    36″ = SMART THINKING!

32″ garage man doors are a terrible idea.

I’ve never seen 32″ side doors. 36″ and 34″ galore.

I own three houses with 32″ man doors in the garage.

And here is where it gets really stupid…

I personally replaced one of the doors…

Jamb and all, including the jamb and jack studs (dry rot was the issue)…

    With another 32″ door.

    WTF was I thinking?

I should have saw cut the foundation, hammer drilled and epoxy set another tie bolt, bought a new header, and installed a 36″ door, with a window, and a security grate behind the window.

But no, I just replaced the door with existing, like for like. Dumb.

As you can see, I’m still kicking myself for that.

You’re quite right. And I didn’t want to have to go through an Architectural Committee application process through the city and the HOA just to fix a sagging door. But I should have, as 36″ man doors in a garage are so much more useful… not the least of which is getting a wheelchair through the door with someone in it.

Here’s some pictures of recent door jobs we have done for clients .

    You did the siding after?

Only on the one door that was a job from bad water damage caused by bad deck flashing . I like to remove the siding around the opening when it need to be bigger then just cut the siding first helps with the finishing easier .

    Always willing to learn .
