Thanks @Skillman they were happy we did it. It was in the high 20’s f when we did this. He was thrilled the house only dropped a few degrees. It only took maybe 15 minutes to setup. Well worth it.
That is an aspect I hadn’t even thought of. Guess if it would have been more work, you could have added some moving blankets to it for additional insulation.
Very good idea Sven!! If the opening would have been open to the weather longer we would have had to give that some more thought. We kept it minimal by prepping the new unit before the old one came out. This kept the time very short they had a big hole in their house!!
What I will do a lot of times when changing a door or window in cold weather is take some Zip Poles and some canvas drops and box the area off inside the house. It goes up pretty quick, even by myself, and stops pretty much and cold wind from blowing in.

January 27, 2015 at 2:27 am #261464I’ve done a total of 2 windows – one was a new install in a garage wall. I built the wall, too. The other was a retro-fit single hung. I don’t have any pictures.
Doors? I replace doors a lot in these apartments. When I first started working as property manager, I encountered a ton of broken bedroom and bathroom doors. People love putting their fists through the doors for some reason. It’s fun to trim them down and install. But, anything fancier – no experience.

I don't do a fast job. I don't do a slow job. I do a half fast job.

ProI put the doors in my new garage / shop extension but it is not my forte, I did get a pretty good deal on the bare 36 wide insulated steel doors (seconds I believe) but for my purpose they were fine.
