Scot. 4,000 grit ? I never know about that, that new to me.

Usually I use higher grit for sanding some scratch on stainless steel

    #42258

Yeah — the grits are really for polishing — metal, stone, woods to a gloss and also automitive work. Festool is big inthe auto industry too, especially in Europe, and so a lot of the paper is made for use in an autobody shop.

Some guide of Festool Abrasive Paper :

Thanks for posting, Hong. I find Granat to be a really good all around paper — works well with wood and on finish — does not seem to clog up fast and it lasts a very, very long time. It is my go-to paper. Klingspor sells some paper that is similar to Rubin and also the Brilliant that works well. Like I said, some of the abrasives are for metal/automotive work.

Other than Festool, is there any other brand sander disc with higher grit ?

    #43057

Abranet might offer it and Klingspor does as well.

I will check it out at Abranet and Klingspor

Norton and 3M might also be good choices.

Norton ? Is that a new brand ?

I think 3M sander disc will more expensive than Festool

    #43395

Norton has been around for ages — I believe made in Canada. They sell it at Home Depot and maybe some other retailers. They have a 3X paper they claim lasts longer than traditional, but I am not sure. I think Festool and Klingspor have lasted the longest for my usage.

I don’t think that HD has Norton for RO sanders any longer. They now carry Diablo. Norton was much better in my opinion.

I’m not sure Hong. I don’t get into a Lowes very often. There are 4 HD’s closer to me. I actually probably prefer Lowes, but not enough usually to drive the extra distance.

That always seems to be the case — as soon as you buy something and like it that is the time that they change it out…I wonder if Lowes carries it? I think that they carry a brand called Gator but never tried it.
