    I would like to get some plants for my patio to offer some more privacy and a green space. Since Winter is coming up I may grab a few small cedars. Thinking I shouldn’t grab the ones from HD because they grow them in BC in a warmer climate and just don’t survive very well here in Toronto.

    @utopia78,
    Try to hit Plant World up at Eglinton and Royal York. Huge sales going on right now and they can advise on what type of container growing you can have on your balcony.

    I don’t think a cedar left in a container will survive as the root system could freeze.

    Thanks Frank, I will give them a try and research online what type of pot or plant would work best. I never thought of the roots freezing, just figured it was a Winter plant.

    Got most of the planters dumped. Not the most successful year as far as growing, but we did learn a few things.

    We had lots of small tomatoes and lettuce, good on the scotch bonnet peppers that were too hot for us to eat. Everything else was pretty mediocre, I think it was too hot and humid for some plants combined with the choice of soil. It was light soil and I think there was a lot of peat in it. Next year we will mix up a better blend and I won’t be planting against the shop too. The hot sun on the dark green made it just too hot.

    The mini carrots are coming on nice right now.

    My family’s garden had a bumper crop of green beans this year. It was the first year that we had enough to freeze! Most of the plants are starting to die off now though. 🙁

    Yeah mine are starting to fade despite my deadheading efforts. I stopped watering due to a water ban our town has put in place. I ignored the ban for a while, but the season is coming to an end. Time to get bulbs down soon, though.

    I’ve never planted green beans . Do they grow on the vine or on the ground .

    Always willing to learn .

    We just pick them off the bush and eat them like candy. They can be tasty.

    That’s exactly it, just pull them off the tree and enjoy, you can eat the purple skin, or you can peel it off,
    They are nice and sweet , I am surprised that they come out this good from a potted tree.

    @58Chev thanks Frank,

    I wish mine would have survived which I bought at the beginning of the year.
    It had a fungus and died off quick. I definitely gonna add one of those again.

    That’s too bad, if we lived closer, or if I could, I would send you a few clippings, but definitely can’t, and they would not survive.

    Well it’s a new season, I have almost 4 dozen pepper plants started in my basement, now just waiting for warmer weather so I can slowly start hardening them off.
    So far they are all looking health.
