I know the injury happened – a guy took one in the testicle. This was a number of years ago but supposedly his partner dropped a gun and it discharged.

Imagine him when he had to tell his boss he was doing this on company time when he was supposed to be working.

Do you guys treat a finish nailer with the same regard as a framing nailer? I was pondering this tonight when I was using my 18ga nailer with 2″ brads. I was thinking that that in a freak case that nail could shoot into my chest cavity and into my heart pretty easily.

Yes, they all can hurt you in a bad way.

I still don’t use the bump fire, but I’ll admit especially with my 23 gauge I should be a bit more respectful probably. That being said my only experiences where I puckered my butt were with the framing nailer. I think the 23 is a little more so just because of the way the safety works on them, someone who didn’t know how to use one would more than likely shoot off a nail unknowingly if they were to pick one up and it was live.

He lost it to cancer. He’s been 20 years in remission though.

I think finish nailers are nit as bad as pinners and framers as they typically dont bounce fire. I have seen 18 ga nails turn around when hitting a drywall screw and come back I out into a finger. Girbyour chest, it would almost have to beIintentional.

This is why I always keep my fingers at least the length of the nails distance away from the nose of the gun. Always assume it’s going to fishhook.

Good point on the fishhook, I’ve never thought about that but I do always stay away from the end point by a good margin – the pinner is probably worse in that case since it’s usually delicate material and thin pins.

Nope, I know. Oh, wait, was that rhetorical?

I really do appreciate this thread. I’m a novice at nailers, but want to get some starting with pinners. I wear glasses when working with tools, now I know to keep my hands away.
