Insert Router Bits

    Anyone use these type of bits? I think Amana and Freud make them as do other manufacturers. Double sided replaceable inserts are appealing to me. Thoughts from anyone who has used them?

    These types of bits don’t seem to be commonly available. Expensive from what I saw. Shaper bits are known for this more versus router bits.


    I went through a spell when I was doing a lot of solid surface work. Used them then. Haven’t used one in, oh maybe ten years. I liked them for template setups, no messing with bit adjustment when changing out inserts. Probably not the best way to change inserts, but at least I unplugged the router. I had bought them from Tom Pinske/ Pinske Edge.

    I had never of such things until this post.


    Thanks…I ordered one to see how it works out. I like that you can flip the edge when dull and new inserts are 1/2 to 1/3 the price of a new bit so we shall see.
