I have a pull-up bar (steel pipe and 2x4s) in the hallway between my office and kitchen. When I walk down the hallway, I do a few pullups unless my hands are full. It is super easy and convenient, and have noticed a difference already in the last month or two. I think if I the bar in my basement or garage, it would get used much less frequently than having it easily accessible in my living space.
I have a cage with a olympic bar. you can do your regular workout in relative safety along with pull up bars and a bench. I also hung one of those rubber elastics on the pull up bar to help me out in times of weakness lol.
