ProDoes anyone know if there is any mechanism to attach a battery or electric drill to to turn it into a drill press. I do not have the funds to purchase a drill press but have had many jobs where I needed one.
October 12, 2014 at 4:41 pm #200821There are lots of them out there but they all run around $40. Here is a bench top drill press for $65

Fayetteville, NCOctober 12, 2014 at 5:05 pm #200835I use one of these. I’ve got a Dewalt DW235G in mine.
No idea where you could get anything similar these days though.

ProI guess I will have to look on eBay, Amazon, or Craig’s List.

ProIt isn’t technically a drill press, but there is a pretty neat tool from Bridge City Tool Works called the DJ-2 that is a sort of jig that works as a drill press… but it is a) out of stock and b) probably out of the budget, but figured it was worth a mention

ProLooks like it would be cheaper to just buy the mini drill press.
October 12, 2014 at 7:36 pm #200929You could also check local pawn shops.
October 12, 2014 at 7:40 pm #200936There are plans out there to build one for yourself but as mentioned previously there are some reasonably priced mini drill presses available. You might save a few bucks but the time involved building your own would need to be considered.
October 12, 2014 at 11:25 pm #201079I remember seeing them years ago I would bet you could pick one up on craig’s list of at a auction or flea market.

ProThere are a few companies that make these – search Amazon. They are not very expensive. I have been looking at them to use with a MultiMaster, but never have gotten around to getting one.

October 13, 2014 at 5:34 am #201115I’d suspect that even an out-of-true well-used drill press would be more accurate and precise than an adapter/stand. I doubt that you could find one as well built as the one @Dustincoc posted the pic of any more at any price.
With a DP, there are fewer things to get out of line, speed is variable but locked in, and a larger, shop-built table with fence can be added that’s made of scraps and cutoffs. Typically they have a larger motor and chuck, too.October 13, 2014 at 5:41 am #201122That mini drill press is very cheap.

And On this note, make sure you have the chuck key.i had to go out and look for one once and it took me forever to find a place locally that carried a 5/8″ chuck key.

InactiveI like the one Bill posted from Northern tool much better than any adapter mechanism, Especially for the price
October 13, 2014 at 1:20 pm #201273They seem to have replaced the model in the pictures in the previous post with what they are now calling a drill jig. Same price about $40-45.

A drill jig? Well that doesn’t sound good
October 13, 2014 at 3:40 pm #201295I guess it is a drill guide anyway here is a link to one. I’d go for the $60 drill press myself.

Fayetteville, NCOctober 13, 2014 at 3:57 pm #201298I don’t do much drill press work but a small benchtop one will do the trick for small odds and ends projects. For ~$100 you can get a decent mini press.
