How much is ipe in the islands Dirty? It’s gotten expensive everywhere, I’m sure. I pay a little under $ 3.50 per foot, for 1×6.

When I started using it around 10 years+ ago, I got the full 1″ thick material for around $ 2.00 per foot.

Mark, what’s the deal with your rail posts running below the deck, is this a secret you should be telling us about?

    Honolulu,, Hi.

Looking good. I’ve never used those black footing on the sealed deck. I guess they are adjustable in heights.

Yes, most of them are adjustable, but screwing in or out. Less then 1 1/4″ high and we have to stack various thickness’s to achieve the correct height.

are you using redwood instead of ipe on your railings.

Yes, we use a redwood frame with a ipe cap. I’m not sure if you can tell, but these are cable railings. If we used ipe posts and had to drill all those holes, we would be there for a month and own stock in a drill bit company.

Great job Mark, Is that cable railing system a common style you do? I don’t think I’ve ever seen that before.

A new blade for the Kapex, made it through the project. We used 1 blade for framing and 1 blade for finish work using the wormdrive.

We have done quite a few cable railing jobs, though this was a little different then what we normally do. I have a published article on cable railing.
