November 20, 2014 at 2:23 pm #219745I have only ever used felt paper and once I used rolls of thin foam for a floating hardwood floor in a basement.

ProI don’t care for the rosin as it doesn’t help with sound transfer. I prefer 1/4 inch cork.

ProI am about to put down 7.5 inch wide red pine flooring that I made. I had bought some cork for underlay and just recently read that it should not be used in a mail down flooring aplication. I was then going to use 15 felt paper, but read some people are affected do off gassing. So today I seen some floor protector paper at HD and was wondering if that would be better.
January 20, 2018 at 9:10 pm #663746We have always used felt and never had a problem with off gassing or smell.

A whole bunch of things in a home off-gas for many years and for most people it’s not a problem but for some folk it is.

ProAny thoughts on the floor protector paper?

Not what I would use. Would not be much of a vapor barrier. A proper underlayment would be much better.

January 21, 2018 at 12:53 pm #663929in Minnesota we are required to provide a “formaldehyde Disclosure” that basically says “many building materials contain formaldehyde and that it may cause respiratory difficulties in those with existing respiratory difficulties such as asthma or other concerns” the actual language is much longer but that is the just of it.

Interesting. Seems better than felt at least.
