There seems to be a lot of confusion on what happens to the LIFETIME WARRANTY that goes with the Craftsman hand tools. It used to be you can walk into any Sears with a broken hand tool and get it replaced, no questions asked, no receipt necessary.

Now that SB&D owns it and their statements and the Craftsman web site on warranty is very confusing. Anyone tried to get their Craftsman hand tools replaced?

On a related subject today I joined the online Craftsman Club. Just like many other sites you have to answer some questions.

They asked me what tool brands I currently own. Note how they spelled RIDGID.

They also asked which trades I am participating in, and there is a selection called “PLUMPING”.

PLUMPING LOL!!! I had to look it up on Urban Dictionary.

I gave up on Craftsman tools over 20 years ago. The warranty became such a joke. I was also in the Craftsman club, and all that got me was tons of junk mail.

I agree it is a work in progress and how they handle the legacy lifetime warranty will be a determining factor in how successful the new launch is.

Let’s hope they put more thought into warranty policy and application than they do to customer surveys.

I would be skeptical about buying Craftsman right now based on that form.

That form is probably made by an intern of Stanley.

Strange how such trivial errors will make a company look bad. Signals in our minds that details get overlooked and quality may be amiss.

    That’s so true.

While I understand it’s probably a total restructure of the company, and I went through several merger and acquisitions before where for a brief and sometimes prolonged period of time you have 10 cooks in the kitchen and everyone struggling to figure out the new “org chart”. But it DOES fairly or unfairly speak to a certain lack of quality control.

In this case I am willing to bet the web site development work was probably out sourced to a place like China or India and even the QC is non English speaking.

I have to go check the new storage boxes I got I hope it says Craftsman and not Caveman lol.

Probably. Even if they may have used a spell checker, I think both those mispelled words could have passed. While ‘plumping’ is a word used in chicken processing, I did find it also in the Urban Dictionary and it has nothing to do with chickens. I actually can’t even mention what I saw it says as it is kinda vulgar and not appropriate on an open forum.

So be careful if you ticked that plumping box in the survey Sami, you may start to get all sorts of porn spam if they share/sell your info. Lol!

well on the sticker it says “PROUDLY MADE IN USA WITH GLOBALLY SOURCED MATERIALS”.

and it does say it has a LIMITED LIFETIME WARRANTY but requires original receipts.

Those thermal paper receipts fade out in a year or so.

Kind of sad. I grew up with Craftsman tools and thought they were the greatest and that warranty was something I “owned”. My old (fifty years) Craftsman ratchets now seem “clunky” (like me.) The sockets and seemingly indestructible screw drivers are fine.

The deck is stacked against us as far as warranties go. Usually too much bother — too many hoops to jump through. How many of us kept receipts from over 20 years ago, and as Dirty wrote, they wouldn’t be readable now anyway.

I have all my receipts in digital format for filing purposes.

But that doesn’t matter I hardly ever go back to look anything up. Nowadays everything is made in China and I don’t expect warranty to hold up anyways.

Yea, that’s if I leave them in the van but I find in a file cabinet they last a lot longer.

I think so. I have online orders the only receipt is digital. If you shop at Home Depot and they email you a receipt to me it’s “original” enough.

I would think so too. It has all the information on it.

A few years ago. I bought a lunch box planer at my local CDN Tire store. I forgot to take the receipt out of my pocket of my pants. The receipt got ruined when my pants got washed in the washing machine. I went to my local store and they printed me a copy of my receipt. They can only do this if you pay by visa or debit.
