This is not construction related but I ran into a bit of an issue trying to take stuff out of my safe deposit box at a bank.

The bank has decided that due to COVID they are closing the lobby. Now I do business with multiple banks, BoA, Chase, Citi, BB&T, TD, Schwab and most of them kept the lobby open. They may have limited hours or may be closed on Saturdays but BB&T decided to close their lobbies.

I didn’t know and went to the bank and doors were locked. On their web site it says if you need in person service to call their branch or set up an appointment online. I called the local branch, no one answers. Went online to book an appointment and was able to secure an appointment the next day at 11am. That’s not an appointment to get into my box, that’s an appointment for them to call you to ask you “How can I help you”. You tell them you need to access your safe deposit box and then they set you up for an true appointment the next day. That’s 48 hours after. If you need to get to your box for some urgent matter, you may not be able to.

@Miamicuse WOW sounds pretty complicated ,
I wonder why all the protocol ,

I went through the drive thru at our bank to deposit a cheque , but the envelope drawer is sealed close with silicone caulking 🤷‍♂️
I usually just take a picture of the cheque and deposit it via smartphone banking , but for some reason I was getting a message saying make sure I deposited the same amount as on the cheque , was just because the cent’s actually looked funny , I just darkened them slightly , and it worked.

We have some banks with open lobbies and some with closed lobbies. be bank at some of both, but I think I will be having my business gravitate towards those with open offices.

We’re waiting to hear back from a friend of my wife who came over last Friday and on Monday her and her husband we’re showing Covid like symptoms. He works in a farmers market out by Peterborough. They’re going in to be tested today and we won’t know til maybe Friday whether they have it or not.

Fingers crossed it isn’t Covid for them and we’ve been infected from her visit as it seems that the majority of folks who get it don’t start showing symptoms til around day 5 or 6 from the time they’ve been infected.

I think how different banks deal with the pandemic will tell me from now on which banks to give my business to.

I will probably switch from BB&T, the only hassle is all my tenants are instructed to direct deposit there, so it will be a bit of transition period to move that over.

Another bank with lobbies open, you walk in, they ask you to stand in a specific spot first, remove your mask and look at the camera, then you can put your mask back on. That’s understandable and no compliant. But completely closing the lobby and not answering phones and taking 48 hours to access safe deposit boxes is a bit much (for me anyways).

I was at my doctors two days ago for a physical exam.

The nurse who took my blood sample told me she had a nephew who tested positive. Now get this, there is a long wait to get tested. You first register online for a spot, and then print out a piece of paper with your name, address, phone and the appointment confirmation ID with which testing site to go to. Then you drive to that site and wait in the long line of cars. This wait is long, can take hours. Her nephew waited over one hour, lost patience and left without getting tested. Six days later he got in the mail test result testing positive.

HUH? He didn’t get tested. WTH?

What this means is very concerning.

At my bank all cheques and cash deposits are put separate drawers without envelopes. It has been this before Covid.
My bank only lets certain amount of the bank at one time. The have person outside letting people in out.

Fingers crossed Kevin. Hope all goes well for you and you friends.

I’ve read enough in our news to know it’s a bit of a mess in some US states with testing. Just as in the states, each province here can do things different but all provinces have taken the dilligence route and are essentially lined up with what our Federal Government wants them to do.

In contrast, you guys seem to have little to no Federal meaningful direction and it is left to your state governors who seem to have a very wide array of how to deal with it along with what they impose in their respective states.

Here, with my wife’s friend, they called on Tuesday and were booked for Wednesday/Today. Results should be next day, but sometimes it takes a second day to receive them.

I’ve not read or heard in our news outlets of horrid lineups to get tested. They’re cranking 20-30000 tests a day in our province of 15 million people here in Ontario. Our daily new case rate has started to be below 100 per day this past week with death rates per day you can count on one hand or even zero some days.

    OLD thread warning

So I was just talking to Rejean , he’s the master electrician here , he was contacted by our medical and security ,
Last week him and a few others from here went to see the Milwaukee reps from the mobile truck to buy some newer tools from Milwaukee , apparently the reps have been tested positive for covid-19 , now our company is contacting anyone else who might have come in contact with any of the people who were with the reps , or even afterwards came in contact with our guys who were with the reps ,
I have to say , there are over a dozen people missing from the electrical department , and plumbing , plus the millwright department

Be curious to hear what the outcome is , hopefully no one has the covid19 🙏🤞

Aside from that , here in the plant , we’ve been having a couple of positive cases every week and a half.

    Wow that’s crazy!

We had one Covid case at my place of work a few weeks ago. It turn a newly hired employee got Covid. Management shut the plant down for the rest of day after they found out a employee had Covid. The next the plant was also shut down for a deep clean by outside contractor. There was about 10 employees sent home for 14 days that were in contact with infected employee.

Our plant is going through a shortage of Blue nitrile gloves & N95 masks again due Covid 19

Yeah it’s ridiculous , lots of guys kinda upset because it actually happened last Wednesday , and those guys from our shop were working closely with other people in the plant ,
I’m just hoping that nobody actually tests positive ,

We also have a shortage of the black nitrile gloves , and the blue and green ones also ,

Covid has hit our home twice this week. I have been off work since Monday as my wife has had symptoms Covid. My work won’t me return to work until my wife has had Covid test and has negative results. Once she has a negative result I can return too the work the next day.

Today my wife lost her job of 12 years due Covid. It is a sad day.

That’s a big blow and even you can’t report to work.

I hear the COVID tests have lots of false positive so hopefully it’s a false positive.

Did she lose her job just because she tested positive?

    A

No! She hasn’t got her results yet. She wasn’t the only person to lose their job this week.
Sounds like her employer is is rough shape financial.

That’s what I read between the lines on that.

Droppin down to what EI is gonna pay and getting into a new house is not ideal. Hope it all works out for you Greg.

As many regulars know on this forum, I’m a financial guy dealing as a boutique independent advisor for decades for clients for their financial affairs. This Covid thing has been very difficult for many. Some folks having to make major adjustments due to their financial impacts despite goverment assistance, others are on the precipice of financial collapse.

It’s gonna get a lot worse in my professional opinion and my layman’s logic on this. And as is with all things Covid, my guesstimate of where things are going, I think the earliest we can see a wide spread vaccine being meaningfully rolled out is by early summer and into fall next year.

As the virus does what is it’s second wave and far surpass the numbers earlier this year, for which here in Canada was better contained than our neighbors to the south, the numbers here are rising sharply higher than in the spring. I see the new US administration recognizing this and imposing a nation wide high level containment effort which I expect to last 4-6 weeks or possibly longer. That’s gonna hit stock markets, never mind be the death knell for many businesses both large and small, but mostly small businesses.

Without a vaccine, this can even go to a 3rd or 4th wave. Typically, one wave is a motherload wave but it’s to be seen which one it may be. It’s never historically the first wave. Kills way more than all other waves combined. Reorganizes also the way things are on so many facets in society. That includes people’s memtalities and significant major norms from before changes in the way things will be in its aftermath. Nobody speaks about this yet as the govs spoon feed all this to the masses as this plague moves forward.

I don’t believe we are headed to some dystopian world of sorts, even if this goes way beyond next year, which it can indeed do, but there are changes coming that most are not even aware of imo unless a widespread vaccine is circulated within the next few months and this is all over for the most part by early spring. I strongly believe that is wishful thinking. The Pfizer announcemnt earlier this week was 90% effective, which is promising, but it’s also like saying the finger in the dyke can spew water still and is likely not the ideal solution either. Still, signs of hope on the horizon maybe. Let’s all hope so.

    FWIW.

Yeah , lots of people lost jobs and income , it’s been stressful for lots of people ,
The front line please , doctors and nurses , and all the other people working in the hospitals and clinics , hats off to them ,
We just had a video conference with our president , it’s not looking good for the end of the year , and possibly the beginning of the new year , taking about layoffs again ,
Rumors going around about the company possibly offering union worker’s that would be retiring next summer , a possibility of taking it earlier but without any penalty to the pension fund , that and a few other options

My wife’s just started her new job this September , and they are starting to talk about possibly letting go of some people also , they will try to offer the older people early pension packages and so on , this way the younger staff could possibly stay working ,

Lots of people in unstable circumstances ,
Hopefully they get there with the vaccine for the virus faster than expected ,
