Get Your Pro/Not So Pro Summer Contest Week 3 Winners Here

The third week of the summer Pro/Not So Pro contest has come to an end. We’ve had a lot of good entries come in this week, especially for the Not So Pro division. As usual it was another tough decision for the winners of this week’s Pro/Not So Pro contest. In fact, it was so tough that this week we have three winners! We couldn’t decide between two of our “Not So Pro” entries therefore we’ve decided to just award them both.

Pro Winner

Pro/Not So Pro

The attention to detail is just astounding

Marlon shared this Pro photo last week, but we just had to award it. “Removed rotted wood deck, extended concrete wing, ran water and electrical to island. Kitchen island is limestone with a limestone cap/counter top. New deck framing using deck blocks and finished with Timber Tech deck, bench, and rail.”

Joe’s comment: “the hole for those was cut with a “hammer saw” – i.e. just smash your hammer into the approximate spot where you need the hole until you’ve removed all the wood that’s in the way.”

Our first Not So Pro winner, Jeff, shows us just how important hiring the right electrician can be. “Here is how all the exterior light boxes were installed on a house I re-sided.  The home owner was appalled.”

2nd Winner

Pro/Not So Pro

Joe’s words: “I’m speechless “

Our second winner this week, Dax, submitted this “finishing” job. “We hired a contractor to completely remodel our kitchen. When the plumber ran the water lines, he ran them several inches off of the back wall.  So when they tried to install the dishwasher, it wouldn’t push back all the way.  So what was their solution?? Well, taking 30 minutes and a couple of 90-degree elbows to re-route the pipes obviously required too much effort, so they took a piece of crown molding from the upper cabinets and nailed it on to the lower cabinet to hide the exposed side of the dishwasher.  Nice!!!  Oh yeah, and they didn’t secure the dishwasher to anything so when you open the door, the whole thing tips forward.”

Pro/Not So Pro Summer Contest Week 1 Winners

The first week of the contest is over and it is shaping up to be a good one!

It was a tough decision, but after much deliberation we have our first two winners.  These two will receive a 21-piece Bosch Impact Tough™ screwdriver set and are in the running for the Bosch 18V 1/2″ Right Angle Drill

Pro Not so Pro Summer Contest Week 1 Winners

Mark provided this great, yet disturbing, image of a major league failure.

“After lifting one house beam & connecting it to the rig, the house movers failed to install a locking pin. This oversight cost dearly while raising the other I-beam. The previously installed beam slid off the equipment & sent a shock-wave throughout the house and detached the garage. This was the backside of the house. The only thing holding the garage on, is the roof decking. There is an 8″ gap on the front side of the house. You also can’t help but notice the entry door to the garage. Rather than removing hinge pins & saving the door, they cut it half into. Just picture the drywall…..”

Erin submitted what a Pro project looks like, and it is an amazing example of a project coming together to produce a great finished masterpiece.

“The kitchen I built myself from scratch…without my husbands help!”

Winner, winner chicken dinner? No, a Bosch Power Box.

Bosch Power Box

Cleanliness wins new customers, and my admiration

The third Bosch Power Box award for the Pro/Not so Pro Challenge is Matthew Collson of upstate New York.  It’s obvious from his work on this customer’s heating system that he takes pride in his work and maintains neatness has part of his workplace creed.  This installation evidences both commitment to the craft and creativity.  And that’s a success formula for no matter what you’re doing.  Matthew’s example of professionalism is a prime example of why we’re doing this challenge.

I was also impressed with Cade Baker’s Oregon Ducks gate. That’s total creativity in action – I’ve got a few items in my bag of accessories that might help on your next big effort.

And then there’s George Strasbaugh and his work in the locker room of the new Pittsburgh Penguins arena.
